Waters Fraction Manager - Analytical
Uniquely designed to accurately collect fractions from high-efficiency UPLC separations
Efficiency gains realized by ultra-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) and ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) separations often get lost with traditional slow-speed, high-volume HPLC-grade fraction collectors.
Minimize fraction loss and carryover to better manage low volume peaks and efficiently collect small amounts of material for further assays with the Waters Fraction Manager (WFM-A), an analytical-scale fraction collector for UPLC systems. Waters has designed the WFM-A to provide high purity and recovery, confidently minimize sample loss, and reduce carryover of your complex mixtures and precious samples.

Features Header
Purposefully designed for high-efficiency, high-purity collections
The WFM-A overcomes the peak purity challenges of typical fraction collectors and includes features like:
- Low peak dispersion: The low volume, rapid switching valve reduces dispersion and allows the precise collection of narrow UPLC peaks.
- Sample recovery: To further increase recovery of your smallest fractions, the advanced needle design focuses flow and prevents precious sample droplets from forming on the tip.
- Temperature control: The sample compartment is precisely controlled at a range of 4–40 °C to accommodate thermally labile samples.
- Biocompatibility: The WFM-A inert flow path allows effortless integration into your UPLC or HPLC system, accommodating all biomolecule applications.
- System versatility: Specialized needles are designed to accurately dispense fractions for UPLC flow rates of 2 mL/min or higher HPLC flow rates of 5 mL/min.
Novel design for less carryover, maximum recovery, and higher purity
Fraction purity is a major concern when performing analytical fraction collection due to the inherent small volume application work. Classic fraction collector designs trap a portion of the fraction in the dispensing tube when the valve closes. The trapped portion is then collected with the next fraction when it is dispensed typically referred to as “crosstalk.”
The innovative fluidic design of the WFM-A minimizes carryover risk. The syringe can be programmed to dispense a small amount of rinse solvent through the dispense needle after a fraction is collected. This rinse can be directed either to waste, or into the current fraction vessel increasing fraction purity by reducing crosstalk.
Better peak integrity with minimal band broadening
The negligible volume of the WFM-A fraction valve, combined with optimized tubing volumes between the detector and the valve, minimizes band spreading of the fractions. The figure shows that the WFM-A fraction valve peak shape superimposes the straight bypass, whereas the other valves demonstrate much greater dispersion.
The WFM-A effectively collects what you want, when you want it.
