Environmental Sustainability

We share a common mission with our customers to leave the world better than we found it, and our sustainability efforts support this mission. We strive to integrate sustainable thinking and practice into our operations, products, and supply chain in order to identify, measure, and address our biggest environmental impacts.

Operations

We surpassed our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions goal by reducing emissions by 36% from a 2016 baseline. As part of this continued effort, we are increasing our use of renewable energy, phasing hybrid and electric vehicles into our service fleet, and incorporating green building principles into our facilities management practices, with two of our largest manufacturing facilities certified to BREEAM and LEED standards, respectively. We also work to reduce our water use intensity and maximize the waste we divert from landfill.

Supply Chain

We work to measure the impacts of our suppliers, are incorporating ESG principles into our supplier management activities, and work with our suppliers to ensure that our expectations for responsible behavior are understood and met.

Products

We are innovating better designs for our product packaging to reduce size and weight and phase out the use of non-recyclable materials. The Xevo TQ Absolute Mass Spectrometer consumes less energy and less nitrogen, and is smaller and quieter than many competing products. Similarly, our ultra-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) products — comprising instruments, column chemistries and high-performance surfaces — allow customers to process smaller samples up to 92% faster, while using less energy and solvent than conventional high-performance liquid chromatography methods.

The ACT Label

Waters has designed many of its products to maximize your lab’s sustainability efforts and complete the rigorous process to earn the ACT Environmental Impact Factor Label.
